Anyone doing any alternative water sport this weekend? I've foamed up my roof rack and can transport the SUP again. Illinois Beach?
something, anything?

We had one guy here named Jochi and he had one. He was truly impressed by it. It wasn't too floaty and you couldn't tell it was inflatable since it was rock hard. It wasn't the best board out their but it did the job more then well enough. I'd let you contact him, but he's out of chicago now. He was a great kiter.

I might be up for Some SUP'ing this afternoon or weekend. I am probably looking at going to Montrose if I go or someplace close to the city. I have an inflatable actually Kevin. It works pretty well just gets to be a bit of a workout trying to pump up to 15+ psi. I bought a 10'6" Lopez 1 from ULI and it weights about 35 lbs. in the bag with my 3 piece werner paddle and pump inside of it. I have flown with it on vacations and throw it in the car whenever I go kiting... Just in case. I had to break it out on Wed when the wind died on us at Waukegan this week. A few people that know more about SUP's than me have checked it out and seemed pretty impressed by it (maybe they are just being nice.) If you catch me at the beach and want to check it out I would be happy to show it to you and let you try it out. I will say being able to throw it in the car and not worrying about dings in the rails is pretty awesome since i tend to be rough on my gear.

Ive heard the same comments from others... they are much better than expected, but still an inflateable....
Pros- it fits in the trunk. easy to store.
cons: pumping them is a pain in the back. not as good as a "real" sup, the fins get bent during storage.
The pump I saw was a single stroke, unlike our kite pumps which are double. The 16PSI needed for proper inflation took forever to achieve.

Yes that was me Mike. Mike got some I was the unlucky one to pump up and watch the wind die. We stuck around for awhile and took turns getting beat up in the surf on the ULI SUP with a few guys but the wind never showed back up. I will say the inflatable is a ton of fun to goof around on when the wind dies and rides really well on flat water. I have done a few 5 or 6 mile paddles on calm days and had no problems. I am not good enough to surf it though so you would have to ask someone else about that. All this sup talk Is making me want to get back out there this afternoon. Anyone up for meeting me at Montrose?

It took 3 hours for the wind to recognize me and shutoff.
I tried to help. I packed up and drove toward the airport....which usually does the trick.

Wow, some surprisingly positve takes on the inflatables. Of course I'd love a solid regular SUP. I'd also like to live in a single family home in Lincoln Park with a big yard and two-car garage. Not gonna happen.
Any local dealers around here sell inflatables?
