That was a beautiful day and nice few hours session on Kegs.

Wow...what a day.

I could not decide where to go. Join Ivo and the crew at the bottom of the lake with huge winds or hit Sheboygan and hope the straight north winds aren't gusty. My truck was making strange noises, so chose the more mellow town of Sheboygan over the thought if having a breakdown in Gary. LOL.

I'll let Andrew fill in the details, but Sheboygan delivered the goods. Rode 10m Rally with 6'2" UG strapless freewave for 2 great sessions, but you had to be there somewhat early to get it. Straight north winds created really good waves, but you could not get too close to shore. No biggie. What a blast. Great to see everyone.

This front really treated Sheboygan nicely. Started on Saturday with a clean NNE and warm waters, we rode for 4-5 hours with most starting on 12-13’s and down to 8’s by the time we left the water around 7. I spent most of my time on a 11 and 134 brokite wake, loving that board. Made it up to the jetty expecting to find the glassy flat water that comes with these sudden north fronts, instead is was an odd sloshy chop. This was from a south swell that was 2-3 feet in the morning and still hitting the break wall how ever so small. So we then rode just south of the hotel hitting the little waves that made sweet kickers.

Went to bed around 11:30 on Saturday with lake pumping and the waves breaking in the moon light. Woke up around 2:30 looked out my window and saw glassy waters and a gentle breeze in the air. I went to bed deflated and I worried that the front which came early and hit hard, had left in the night.

Next morning was up at 6:30 and saw a lake with it's waters relatively quiet and a NW wind blowing to 20. Wind built and turned north, I rigged an 11 around 9. After struggling to make it out past the hotel wind shadow I was met with clean winds and building swell. Came in switched to my smaller surf board and yelled at everyone to get out there and get the goods. 45 minutes later we had a growing swell and 10 guys on the water.

From 10:30-1 we hit pay dirt. As the wind turned just a bit east and the swell came in from the north. Sheboygan had chest to head high waves that where perfect, smooth so very glassly and peeling cleanly down the line. I rigged to my 8 and had some lip smacking fun with a solid crew from home and different pts of Wisconsin. Bob surprised me first by showing up as I told him to go south, second without his mustache and third was his strapless progress which was above and beyond as those madison guys mostly kite in puddles.

After 2 it was big kites and a dying swell. I went to the other beach to SUP to find ok waves and the coast guard after a group of jet skiers that where blasting through the surfers in the line up. Chilled out and watched the kites still out from across the harbor. With the wind still blowing a few of us went back over for another quick session on big kites. Ended the day with a beach BBQ and a big bon fire.

I told sheboygan’s story now I want to hear how the bottom of the lake was.

ok, miller was the only option at 8:00am. waukeegan and north off shore winds. hit miller about 8:30 (lake street) for two sessions. there were only two other kiters there at the time. they closed the beach to all swimmers. in fact, a couple of jet skiers showed up later who were also kiked out of the water. they said that only kiters were permitted int he water. huge waves about chest high or so, depending upon you height.

after two sessions i was beat and decided to get one last session in at montrose in side shore waves. i don't know the story on whole day but when i got there there were about six kites on average in the water at a time. one last session in side shore waves and then went home. three sessions, two states, one day. a good time had by all. jim

It was a RARE day at Montrose. I'm not sure if the confluence of these events has ever happened there:

Warm water
Warm Air
Sunny
20+ knots, steady
No kooks/"incidents"
No/Few beachgoers

To top it off, the lifeguards were completely cool. Kudos to the whole crew, especially Adrien, who had to send a few new guys packing. The newbies were understanding, and hopefully be back once certified.

Well some of us end up having really good time, Ivo was riding 5 m in AM. waves were quite big over head for sure. Really good day with good crew.
I will let Ivo pics feel in the gap and West wright poetry of the day.

Only bad think was we were kick out of the beach at 7 but end up having more fun in local brewery!

All time Casino........lit for hours on the 7m......waves well over-head.....next to no current.....experience a must!!!!!!!!!


Kudos to Ben, his kiting travels have really helped him to handle the conditions that we had Sunday, nice job buddy. Enjoyed watching you throw backs relentlessly on the inside, it was great.........your buddy looked as though he was having fun as well. John Lynch is hitting it on the money as he travels far and wide to get the premiere sessions, way to go Captain!!! And Ivo, tuning into the Big Lake with knowledge, faith, and gusto (and some Toeside slashing) and just ripping IT UP.........prost!!!!!!!! Pier was going down the line like a bat out of hell, just ripping it as well, and Leno was looking sharp with his strapless riding, awesome to see him again. Slavi with a smile out of the movies was slapping lip after lip, looking like Kelly Slater. The surfboard crew was really pushing the limits and very impressive!!!!!!!!

What a time I had, kiting a strong North in mid-August with 3 friends that I started kiting with over a decade ago....Greg, V and Scottie G......STELLAR!!!!!!!!! It's unbelievable to think of how many sessions we have had in the past, and this one was up at the top of the list.......there were times when we would be on the same wave, looking at each other, just laughing...it was that goooooooood. Warm, sunny, windy, waves....alllllllll day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And we proceeded to utterly carve up that shiz with our unbridled twin-tip assault............one for the ages...............

Sunday was a great day. I'm sore to the bone! Montrose had about 16 kites up or on the sand. Smooth, warm, sunny, can't beat it. Waves were falling on top of each other at first, but when the wind backed off a little they shaped real nice near the pier and had lots of flat water between the waves. Too many camera's to count and hopefully we'll be posting up some pictures soon.

Sounds like Casino went off as usual on the North winds! I gotta hit up that place sometime. I still haven't been in all 3 years of kiting!...I'm also not a wave guy, so that explains some of it.

GoPro was up and running for a bit with Paul (zulutimer) showing off. I'll make a smash up at the end of the season. Great seeing everyone new and old to the sport. i even got to meet Tim i believe of the "founding fathers" of Montrose. I actually stopped him to let him know he needed a streamer haha. That was a good time when I found out who he was.

The season has begun!! Bring the winds!

Yeah, it has been a great summer with good southerlies and these abnormal North winds just pumping weekly!!! Enjoy it while it is warm, cause this is an anomaly in Chicago kiting. The real season is upon us, with the Fall winds just resting up before they begin to pummel the BIG LAKE!!!!!!!!
