I haven't snow kited out in Salt Lake, but I do go snowboarding as often as I can. It's a great place, especially if you're solo or a couple not wanting to do the whole condo/resort thing. The city is just minutes from several world class hills. In the evening you can do as you like from 5 star restaurants to all sorts of budget grinds. The Mormon - Hawaiian connection is evident as there's several fast food Hawaiian places around town! Yum!
If its snowing a 4wd or chains are required to go anywhere up or downhill. The police will check and deny anyone who isn't geared up for slick mountain roads including the interstate. There's a great public ski bus with multiple routes up to the resorts, it runs in all weather. Free parking is available at the bottom of the canyons.
Liftopia.com has reduced rate lift tix.
Car rentals.com is usually pretty good for scoring a cheap ride from a name brand place.
