Trying to Snowboard Utah...

There hasn't been snow in like 3 weeks. Half the dam resort is closed still. I'm thinking I'll scrap my trip this week.

Cheer up, Mike,
It's better than you think. I was in Alta and Brighton for Thanksgiving, and had some magnificent powder skiing, especially in the trees but not only.
Unless you're hell-bent on snowkiting only, there's plenty there, and it was just snowing during the last 24 hrs

I ended up at Wolf Creek, east of Durango. 18 inches of snow over 2 days made for some awesome rides!



On the plane ride back up to Denver, it was amazing to see the snow line.... the Denver area resorts are hurting a little, but down south they have plenty. El Nino? Purgatory and Wolf Creek got blasted.

Many of the people I spoke with were regular riders from the I-70 corridor .... Denver / SLC who had come down for better conditions.

I saw that storm you mentioned just before Thanksgiving....unfortunately it hadn't snowed any real amount since!

Anyhow.. I rode 2 days and couldnt see my boots....

I'm sitting in a cafe in Dillon, contemplating how little snow there is here...

Basically, I was sitting here in my underwear at my desk at 9 am....crybabying about the lack of snow. A friend on facebook pointed out that I could fly anywhere on a moments notice and that certainly there was snow somewhere. I slapped myself in the face, saw the storm headed for Durango... and was on the 12:20 flight from MDW with a room and car booked.

About Durango and Wolf Creek... The area near the southern border of Clolrado is perfectly situated for getting snow. The weather patterns and storms that pass slightly south, over northern New Mexico. They get the northers edge of those storms. The other storms pass north (I-70 corridor) and hit the "big resorts" closer to Denver. Durango gets the southern edge of those storms. So it gets the "double whammy"

They have had 187 inches of snow and have a 60 inch base.

Get in your car and head SOUTH. You could see where the snow had given up on the flight from DRO to DEN. Half way up the snow on the ground looked like a dusting. Head down to Telluride or Wolf Creek. Wolf Creek is next to Pagosa Springs...a nice little town with a good selection of bars etc.

Thanks for the tip. It wouldn't work this time, it's a family trip, with a nice condo in Dillon and all - but Vail and Beaver Creek turned out to be pretty decent, with quite a bit of black diamond and double-diamond terrain open. But I know where to come back in January if this weather pattern continues

No kidding, I have a paid for Season Pass at Brighton in Utah... which is still half shutdown.

We skied there for 4 days over the MLK weekend, of which 3 days were in knee-, then thigh-, then waist-deep powder. And now they've got some 13 more inches.
The lift tickets are cheaper than Devils Head in Wisconsin - seriously, $46 on weekdays, $52 on weekends.

my friends always go there and they swear by the place. i am thinking about going there, the only thing is those devils head lift quality.
