I arrived at Wolf Lake at 3:30 or so, exactly when Paul aka Zulutimer pulled in.
There were some serious windsurf sails on the water, in the 3.5 m range. Guys on 4.5 were coming ashore seriously overpowered.
Then the wind picked up. You could see it clearly - gusts would make the water, plus about 4 feet of air above, completely white.
It took some faith in the forecast to wait there but I am glad we did. Around 4:30 the water was no longer uniformly white, even though the gusts were on the wild side.
I was the guinea pig, on a 7 m kite, completely depowered, and with 20 m lines. Paul graciously helped me launch, and was ready to grab the handle on my harness. To my surprise, that setup wasn't enough for my 215 pounds + the gear, I had to power it up quite a bit.
The wind wasn't quite done with us: at one point I came ashore, and a gust came, and if not for Paul who held me down, I would have to make a quick decision - fly, or let the kite go - but it turned out to be just one bad-ass gust.
Then we got to ride it for a while, without further mishaps, and it was all good. Paul was getting some serious air, 20+ feet. I mostly concentrated on not getting certain body fluid in my pants.
We landed with stars on the eastern sky, ruby sunset on the west, feeling seriously lucky. Thanks again, Paul
