To the west side it was a short walk. To the east side a short drive which is where most of the kiting was going on. I could walk out 200' with the camera in my hand being careful to not get it wet and take some good pics. It rained most of the time we were kiting on saturday.

This place is awesome! My wife and I kited at bay city area and it looks very similar except that it is hard to find a good launch place. Congrats for the first tacks! You guys look good

Yeah we rented the Mini Cabin, but good luck securing one in the warm months! I just happened to get lucky while checking avails... multiple times... and latched onto a cancellation.

Awesome trip with AWESOME people... Amanda, Sean & my Kid Jason!! After spending the weekend in Tawas, on Monday just as the wind seemed it wasn't going to cooperate any further, Sean, Jason & I packed up and started off for home... Amanda, dedicated to the cause as she is, stayed solo to try to lasso in some more! After 10 minutes of driving, as we reached the North side of the bay, we noticed the flags blowing! After a quick stop in a bay front parking lot to confirm wind, we quickly turned the car around and headed back to the point for the most epic day of kiting the whole trip!! Wind direction dictated launching on the lake side of Huron the entire trip... not the bay side for which we really went up for... but it was surprisingly shallow, surprisingly so far out, flat and the water was almost bathwater warm! With the air temps in the upper 50's, we would go into the water to warm up! Someone in the parking lot estimated water temps @ 68º! Didn't believe it until I experienced it myself... seeing as how we were looking at Canada as we gazed across the lake, in early June!

Glad to see Tawas delivered some, sorry we didn't have an opportunity to meet up. 3 in a row this past weekend and NOTHING was forecasted to happen, seems to be par for the course this season. Timberlane Resorts www.timberlaneresorts.com right next door to my shop has plenty of lodging options for kiters and non, you're right on the bayside to hit those westerlys from a private beach. Unlimited shallows nearshore makes the venue unbelievable for beginners.

Yep, Tawas sure did deliver!! Probably go back in July!

That was such a fun trip! So exciting for all us to improve our skills in the forgiving conditions with shallow warm water and smooth steady wind. Had a blast with the crew!!!

East side of Michigan on Lake Huron roughly 60 MI north of the thumb.

My parent's live about 25 minutes from Tawas and i've NEVER kited it. Shame on me cause i've heard it's incredible.
