This has happened bot because he was sheeting in, but rather because he caught a thermal. Have u seen the video with a guy with Lincoln's hat on the beach, and a guy getting lifted in the background? Well it is the same thing.
I read that the best way to 'escape' these thermals are to kiteloop a few times, since it gives you a 10-15 yrd drop each time.

He was unhooked for some of it...you can see whenn he hooks back in mid air.
It's good to kite loop because it sends you forward so the apparent wind under you kite is less. Same reason that you eventually come back down after a big jump. Most of us have all had the double loft, where you jump then suddenly in the middle of your height you get another boost from a gust. you get twice as high with no effort
