I actually witnessed this the last time I went skiing in Lagrave, FR 2 yrs ago, I rode up the gondola with some guys heading up to speed ride. They come from a parapenting background which is huge in the Alps. They just use a smaller chute that keeps them closer to the ground and take off from the peak. There's some cool youtube videos out there of guys going off the Eiger and Mont Blanc.
But I watched a guy take off into a very steep tight 4000 foot vertical couloir with 100 -200 foot rock walls on both sides no more thatn 50 feet wide in some places. Skiing it require 2 rappels down vertical rock wallls. After him, as we skillfully skiied every turn down this no fall zone couloir we kept looking out for a torn chute, blood, body parts.......nothing - he'd made it through.
These guys are CRAZY!!
