Postby Steve N » Thu Sep 15, 2011 2:33 pm

MACKite's King of the Great Lakes Kiteboarding Competition is in it's 11th year and we are moving it back to Grand Haven and it is going to rock.

Why Grand Haven? Well because the Indie Rock Fest and Artwalk will both be kicking off the same weekend!

We have also lowered the registration fee for competitors and registered noncompetitors to $25

We will have Pro-riders from Best, Cabrinha, Liquid Force, and North!
Craig Cunningham and Claire Lutz will be representing Liquid Force Kites at KOGL! Sweet! http://www.clairelutz.com
Cabrinha just confirmed that racer Chris Butzen and Freestyler Jan Lucas Gianello will be attending.

Rock it out on a twin tip we don't care the worst thing that could happen is you don't win. Likely the only guys with race boards will be the pros. We will have the 2011 Cabrinha Race board on the beach to demo.

Dude rock the twintip. I took third in the am course race at lord of the winds on a 133 twin tip. Stupid bag restrictions. Rock the bigest twin tip with the biggest fins you can. I'v been testing my 170x50 with 6 2.5 inchers and it realy points up wind better with the big fins. If you can ride in a crowd and know starboard port and high kite low kite your good to go. I think the IKA sight has a simplified rule description or maybe kiteracing.com? Racing if fun. Go for it!

why not make it more interesting for the people who really ride the Great Lakes and separate the Pro riders from the locals.

I think there should be some kind of event that actual Great Lakes riders can compete against each other without feeling like you have to stay out of the Pros way, ect. It would be cool to ride against people you actually may see on the beach on any given day in our local.

just a thought.......... that I have had for a couple years

There will be a hundred race boards there for you to take out for a tool, just cozy up to one of the reps.

if we one trick ponies take that special move were each good at and put it all together as one rider, we would kick some ass. may take 22 of us and a whole lot a trophies to bring down a pro, but they may think twice about coming back.
