Slimed!

Yesterday's solo downwinder got cut a little short.
Half way through, I rode a great wave during a lull and dropped my kite.

I have never even seen a slimefest like the one that engulfed my kite.





I picked at it for an hour on the beach. Looked the same.
Lugged it 2 miles back to the vehicle.

The whole mess weighed in at 17 lbs.....this morning! I would guess it was 35+lbs wet.

Took 2 hours to pick clean.

Totally worth the wave.

Bob, this was the densest concentration I have ever seen. There is always a little here and there. But this made it hard to swim!

Does anybody know if this stuff makes good compost?

You can see the dark areas under the water just offshore at Montrose, North Ave etc when you fly over on a calm SW wind day. It lurks under the water. If you've ever gone out to Montrose while it's still frozen up, there's 4 feet of solid weed all along the "shoreline". Im not sure if the lake takes it back, or the PArk Dist scoops it out with a front end loader. It stinks and it's a mess.

If I remember correctly, it's better to shake the lines while they are still out, slapping them on the water in a clear area, rather than trying to pull the stuff off by hand. It might also help to put a fouled mess under water if you end up with something similar to the one in the picture.
