Register your kiteboard!?!?

Postby mrgrey » Mon Jul 22, 2013 12:29 pm

Listening to the radio 720WGN today and overheard guy talking about what will now require registration in Illinois. Looked up about the water usage stamp and kiteboards are included. 6 bucks per board apparently.... Now this is gettin silly.

"Among them is who is required to buy the sticker. The law says one is required for “any canoe, kayak, kiteboard, paddleboard, float tube or watercraft not propelled by sail, canvas or machinery of any sort” that is used “on the waters of this state.”

michiana is actually unbelievable when it comes to restrictions...you can have open liquor on the beaches, they are raked every morning, no swim buoy/red flag restrictions, beach fires etc. hell the cops even contain the massive stop 2, 4th of July/ spring break party so they can get naked. No need to register my boards! lave dat sheit

Holy hell. That's some BS! So a windsurf board is OK, but a kiteboard, surf board, or even BOOGEY board is a no go!!! Thanks for the heads up

Hey Urban, you better start registering your arm floats:

"Kiteboard which is not powered by a canvas (kite)" - how in the world do they imagine using such a thing? More importantly how would they explain their point to fellow kitesurfers and judges if it ever comes to that point?
Or those powered by sail or canvas is a different fee category and range?

it is interesting that even a tube needs a registration as soon as you start river tubing.

The law says one is required for “any canoe, kayak, kiteboard, paddleboard, float tube or watercraft not propelled by sail, canvas or machinery of any sort” that is used “on the waters of this state.”

But if you are “floating on a pink pool raft next to shore,” McCloud said, the stamp isn’t required.

However, “if you’re going to use the pink pool raft to go down the river, going from one point to another, it is,” McCloud added.

Time to move LOL

But really, technically what powers a kiteboard? What powers a wakeboard? Neither kite nor boat are connected to the boards. Would a wakeboard be subject to the tax?
