Places cheap to go----tent and kite

I'm looking for a great place to camp and kite

reasonable driving distance
stay in tents (maybe on the beach)
good kiting

I have a week off and my wife and I are going to head out of town the third week in August. She'd like to go up towards the Apostle Islands.


Any ideas?

We just went up to Point Beach State Forest up by Two Rivers, WI this weekend. It is about a 3 1/2 hour drive. While we got skunked on wind it is a great place to camp and the beaches look great for kitesurfing. There are miles of wide open beach around the point which should work for every wind direction except Nort West and West. Of course it blew hard directly out of the west on Sunday!

We could not get reservations this weekend but were able to get a campsite when we arrived.

Just drive up north along lake michigan (in MI) and there are plenty of places to stay and kite, and the area is really nice.
