Hello,
I've been reading alot about land to land crossings via kite power such as the Catalina to LA Harbor Crossing, Florida to Bimini Crossing. Anyone thought about crossing from the Michigan mainland to Manitou Island or Mackinac Island. How about Michigan to Wisconsin???? My goal for 06 is to cross something...point A to point B run...hopefully something bigger than that little dirty pond at Waukegan beach.

My last day chasing wind at South Haven there was a guy attempting a swm across the lake. Well, he was swimming after his kite which was heading out to sea.
What the heck was that guys' name?
LOL

Hey Mrnicefred
What do you mean the difference? Length? Compatability?

i googled it to find that lake michigan is about 120 miles wide (im guessing on average). as far as i know, the record for kite crossing is key west to cuba, which is about 90 miles. FL to bimini was about 50 miles and it took the teams between 3 and 7 hours to make it. so crossing lake MI would take a little more than double i guess. . . thats a long ass time!!!

I think the kite distance record is 137 miles. If Lake Michigan is 120 you got to think you would probably travel 200 miles to get across...that's too far.

What about Montrose to Miller? You'd go past some pretty gnarly coastline with all the steel mills, etc. but it might be cool to kite out of the city - or Miller to Montrose... that would be cool too. Or a downwinder from Zion to Oak Street Beach. That would be sweet - land on the beach and then have a bunch of chicks in bikinis to greet you - then bash their heads in when you crash your kite - whoops!
