SNOWKITE TRIP!!!! Out West Jan 30-March 17

Postby Like To Kite » Thu Jan 13, 2011 7:07 pm

Hello Everyone, hope you're enjoying this beautiful winter season!

Stephen and I are planning a massive snowkite trip out West this winter. Going to some of the most amazing snowkite spots in the USA and attending a couple of cool kite events along the way. Would be great to meet up with you and snowkite if possible. If you are interested, lessons and Ozone Kite demo gear will be available. http://www.FlyOzone.com

Just bought a campervan and preparing it for winter camping. Various good kite friends will join us to share in the fun along the way. We'll snowkite as much as possible everyday and soak in the goodness of all the natural hot springs in the evenings. The kite events will be fun too. Great chance to meet people, improve your kite skills with some friendly racing, and enjoy some fun nightlife with like minded kiters. Some of the best pro riders will be hanging out and showing off their skills for parts of the trip. I'm especially excited about meeting up with Chasta again, such a talented, nice and helpful guy. http://www.chasta.info/

Approximate Schedule:

January 30 - February`13
Somewhere in the vicinity of Jackson, Wyoming

February 15 - 28
Fairfield, Idaho (between Boise and Sun Valley, Idaho)
http://www.snowkitetour.com/event/kite-soldiers-2011

March 1- 14
Skyline, Utah (South of Salt Lake City, Utah)
http://www.snowkitemasters.com/

March 15 - 17
Somewhere around Denver, Colorado

Arranging housing so everyone can get together, be comfortable and have fun snowkiting and going to awesome events out West! It should be great in the log cabins that are fully equipped and ready to go. Always fun staying with other kiters and nice to share the costs too.

Hope you can join us!

Should be a super fun trip! If you need a little help with gearing up, here are some options: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9618

Happy Kiting!

Don't forget to stop by Powder Mountain in Utah. It's about an hour from Salt Lake. 5,500 acres of really nice terrain for some gravity fed board/ski action as well as North Americas only dedicated snow kite area, right at the resort.

Reed Brady came out this week for some action. Some of his first snow kite sessions. He killed it. We hit the lifts in the morning and scored some sweet Utah powder, had lunch, then kited all afternoon.

Everything is coming together nicely for the trip. Custom welded a new generator rack to the back of the van and bought another space heater so should be toasty warm inside the camper. If anyone has garage space that I can work in temporarily that has an entrance over 10' it would be extremely helpful.

Schiff, I saw some of your cool pics up on the forum and I've been meaning to contact you. I'll definitely get in touch and meet up with you. Should be around your area in Colorado mid March. Will be really fun to kite with you on your new home turf!

Would also be fun to check out Powder Mountain for a day while in the area. How much does is cost? I know you have to buy a lift ticket to go kiting. There are so many cool kite spots around that whole area and those pictures look amazing.

$20 to get a snow kite pass at Powder Mt. It includes using the Sun Rise and Hidden Lake ski lifts, also ski patrol is there to bail you out if you run into any problems. $59 for a lift pass that also covers snow kiting.

Contact me when you guys come out. For some Great Lakes kiters, I'll roll out the red carpet. Hot springs not far away too.

well, I officially have 1 snowkite session under my belt before this 7 week trip. The camper is coming along nicely. I have left town for the week and amanda is stuck finishing things up. I am just hoping I don't come home to an all pink van! it is shaping up to be an unbelievable trip, I hope to see some of you out there.

The trip is shaping up nicely! Bought thermal fabric for insulating the van today, only one panel is hot pink.

Note: I edited my first post in order to include available accommodation. Thanks and hope to see you there!

Stephen and I are officially on the road! Projects finished, all packed up, rolling down the road and "Living Large" with snow a'blowin. First destination - Badlands! Then off to see Wayne in Jackson to pick up our new Ozone Manta and join that crew for some snowkite caravaning.

Van is running great and seems to be staying warm. Racks made and gear all stowed away. Foam board, bubble wrap, shrink wrap, and insulated fabrics everywhere. Just a little hot pink and some Zebra print trim to make it fun! Will post some pics later.

Looking forward to a great trip and hope to see you out West!

I'm back at work for the week so I actually have time to give a little update.

The first part of the trip to the Jackson, WY area went well. Got some good wind and enjoyed my first two weeks of snowkiting in some unbelievable(if a little challenging for a newb) sites. My brother was on his 15 day mid tour break from Afghanistan so he came out for a week and Amanda turned him into our newest kiter recruit. The little "Toy" home is running great and seems to handle anything we throw at it. Things are a little slow when you get into the 7-10% uphills but it keeps chugging along at 20mph.

I will get some more pics organized and posted up and some point.

Hopefully you all are seeing some action around Chicago as well!

We are probably going to be in the Salt lake area still that week. You can get a pass to kite at Strawberry mountain. We are probably going to be hanging out at skyline, although that is still being discussed, might go exploring Colorado that week instead but we will let you know. Give me a call when you are on your way out. 314-800-6244.

You will be missing the event but here is a link with info on skyline. No pass required here!

Been having an amazing trip so far! My friend Julia from Germany is traveling with Stephen and I now. The Jackson area and crew were so much fun! Snowkite Soldier area is incredible, big open rolling terrain and clean wind. When Julia and I arrived at Soldier it was blowing a steady 30 knots. Check out this cool blog from the people we ended up hanging out with in Fairfield to see some Soldier pics and hear about a mix of awesome people.

http://www.bryanmwilson.com/2011/03/01/thanks-wind/

We've been hanging out at Skyline, Utah for the past couple of days. First day was nice and yesterday was way to much snow, no visibilty, to ride. Dropping Stephen off at the airport now, he has to go to work :-( Julia and I heading back up to Skyline for the US Open :D

Probably kiting in Colorado next week. Hoping to meet up with a few people while there. Should be great time!

Happy Kiting!

Let me know when you guys cross the border into Colorado. Down here in the SW part of the state, Durango, Silverton, Telluride style.
