If you do go, make damn sure that it's clear well downwind of you. If you get loftted, you are going to go 40 mph

Let's see... 40 miles is 211,200 feet....in one hour.... divide by 60 ... 3520 feet per minute...divide by 60... 58 feet per second in the air... 5 second jump... 293 feet downwind.

Well they just had a peak wind of 46 knots at Midway.... that would test your pigtails!

GUYS!! Alright with the safety.. I know I had jumps today that lasted for well over 5 seconds and I saw people today jumping well over 10 seconds, NOBODY was going the length a football field or half, or anywhere near that.. There wasn't ONE foul-up today and we were packed in SUPER close at times.. People were on 7's 8's 9's and 10's today, I think I even saw a 12 out there today, no one got hurt..

Today's ride was EPIC.. The waves, the surf.. I got in about 5 hours of ride time today, the only reason I stopped was because one of the blisters on my hand opened up and started bleeding.. It was awesome seeing everyone out there today.. Sean, we'll get ya going soon man, hang in there..

As for my comment on safety, it's been brewing since my last post about miller when I was told it was unsafe to ride in onshore winds (give me a BREAK).. Mike, nothing against you. You are an unrelenting ambassador to this sport, and for keeping it alive at Montrose, and in my opinion, you get no where near the amount of praise you should for your active role in this.. keep it alive mikey, hope to see you out there on the water..

Big D- You may ask the questions, but ANYONE can read the replies. The safety comments are directed toward anyone who wants to read or consider them, not just yourself. Of course we're all big boys and girls and can decide for ourselves when to go or not.

The safest course is to leave the kites in the trunk all year. Nobody wants to do that. My safety comments are "take 'em or leave 'em", they are general and widely accepted.

I'm glad nobody got hurt today. Im glad everyone who did go out, got along just fine. There may have been a few who stayed home today after considering the safety messages on this board. It's not easy making the "go / no-go" decision, especially when you're new.

I'd like to think that over the years, we've saved a broken bone or two by helping someone make the right decision.

You've been a great topic starter and a good lead into safety discussions and questions! Also, thanks for the kind words about Montrose.

Today was a great day I rode waukegan on my 9m from 11 to 2 and then from 4:30-6 when it was gusting to probably 40 you definatly have the power to travel a whole football field if my kite traveled through the power zone during a big jump. The hang time today was just unreal. It was great to see everyone out and ripping today!!

Yea was one of the best days I've had in a while. Was riding the 12m and super lit at times. Switched to the poleboard when the wind got to be too much. Windy but def wasn't the gale force they were forecasting. Sun even came out around 1.
