Waukegan is AWESOME to learn at. Nice and open. The waves are normal, but if you think the waves at the kite swap were normal they were not. Those were huge. Everyone was having trouble staying up wind and getting past the break. It was terrible learning conditions.

I was accomplish a lot more on Friday at Miller then the swap day, those waves were really bad..

Weather in Waukegan is looking good tomorrow. Today has rain until early afternoon. I can't make it after. Prob hit up tomorrow. Gary looks too onshore today and tomorrow.

The jetty could be a prob for a beginner with North winds.

On a north wind launch from north of the river and don't go out to far. Beach walk back upwind early and often. Getting washed up on the breakwall is not fun. Did it once.

Don't want to sound like a dick but N wind ( that's what's blowing right now) is an ofshore wind at Kegs , Let's not repeat Miller from last Friday. But hey,don't listen to me , I'm a newb, let's see what Corry has to say about it.

To me, it seems that this stretch of the beach is 25-30 degrees off N-S direction?

Looks like you are looking at the wrong beach, go north until you see the harbor.

Let me clarify.... anything blowing side or on shore with North in it (as predicted for today), be careful of the jetty. If it turns North, or does anything unsafe for kiting in, then by all means, revert to common kitesurfing safety practices.

Onshore can also be difficult on a beginner.

Not to veer off track here, but since you've brought it up... I've yet to make it up to Zion... are there any jetties, or other obstacles up there? Is it ONLY at it's best on a North?

Zion is more north south. Waukegan curves NE as it goes north allowing it to be sideshore in a slight ssw. Zion has no jetys and on a north wind you have around 3miles of beach down wind. Only down sides are on a nice summer day it's crowded and the water goes down fairly close to shore making for some wicked beach break sometimes. The small round rocks arn't to bad right now but sometimes the water at the beach can be less friendly if you crash foot down into it.
