Looking good for a double dose. Going to leave for LSP tomorrow morning early. Then camp out somewhere and hit somewhere again on Wednesday. I like not having a job! Hit last week perfect....four days in a row Sunday through Wednesday at LSP and Muskegon.

thinking about MC or "tiles beach" tomorrow to get some kiting in and say hey to West's favorite tree...SW winds should be cool enough to forego a thermal, especially if its cloudy. Clouds...love the clouds...

The suggestions for where to ride on Chicagokitesurfing.com say that Michigan City is good with a WSW wind. Is that accurate? Someone told me that if there is any south in the wind, that the wind is no good for riding in Michigan City. If WSW is good there, it looks like this afternoon has potential based on the forecast sites on Chicagokitesurfing.com.

From the TAFs, they are going to be the most accurate in terms of wind and time. But they are land (airport) forecasts so there is the thermal effect and lake channeling effect you have to consider.

I compare that with the overall windmap, and knowing the temperature of the water vs land, whether it is sunny or not, and direction of wind, its fairly easy to tell what will happen.

WSW works great for MC if the thermal block isn't happening. Currently it is 12-15 at MC and 14-18kts at SH. I see SH is falling off as the sun is warming up the ground (because its quite a bit on shore there already being WSW) so that's not good. But we're early in the wind forecast still supposedly kicking in around 2-3pm.

After 2-3pm the ground will start to cool and stronger winds will come into shore. I will check it again around 12-12:30 and decide what to do, but at least we should have a few hours of sunset sess winds WSW at bev/MC before nightfall. (I hope).

Off topic but look at the MC wind graph right now. You can see earlier and just recently there are two temperature hikes, and with each of those, you can see the wind drop off:

This is the thermal action killing wind between cooler water, and warmer land. Wind lifts and backfills to fill the lower pressure void, and produces a cancelling effect on the beach. Ever stood on shore and seen out there 200 yards on the water there's whitecaps but no wind on the beach? this is what's doing it.

I like seeing MC bump back up in windstrength as the higher winds get here. It is just enough for me on my 12m and 130cm. Gonna watch it a bit more and make a decision.

By late afternoon (when the land cools again ) hopefully the cancelling thermal will die and the session will rock till dark!! On another note - the wsw wind for clean sideshore at MC needs to be 230 degrees and better.

G and me hit beverly (aka tiles) for 2.5 hrs...saw a couple kites at mc in the distance and one dude on a waiman just east of us. It was good!

Yup, MC was epic today, periodically overpowered on 13m and butter smooth water, I couldn't believe I was there by myself until around 3pm. and only 3 other kiters by 5pm. Best MC day ever.

I am so glad you made up for the lost day yesterday - just as epic in Sheboygan, although I cannot claim it was flat
