That was Ho'okipa, on Maui......just upwind from Lanes on a windy ass, stormy, junky day: note the absence of windsurfers, and the close-out sets, meaning the wave quality was poor for them not to be in abundance.

Thing about it is, that the guy who was rescued was not doing much to save his own ass.....once his kite went onto the rocks, he should have been paddling like a maddog, duckdiving waves and swimming with the current to get back out and downwind of the rocks...obviously he did not know the break, or the steps to take during a brush with the rocks; which leads to wondering what he was doing there in the first place?

As for the kiter doing the rescuing, mighty fine job indeed!!!!!!!!!

West I know this looks like Ho'okipa,but I doubt it is.As title say its a Rebstock,you can recognize him by the long dreads.This is California crew,you can see full wetsuit.

yeah didn't notice the wetsuits, and can't make out landmarks on horizon due to camera angle......sure looks like the rock set-up on the inside, but I guess not.......still bewildered about the downed kiter's lack of activity to get out of situation though......lmk when you figure it out IVO...and yeah he rips!!!!!

You were right,that spot got some nice waves when its right and not closing out,,,I was there sitting for 3days waiting,but it never came good,yes BIG,but close out after close out and on top of that if one wave hold formation it was breaking to the left

From Kiteforum.com, they said it was a girl who was rescued. Makes sense for how easy it was for Patrick to carry her with speed.

In the video, it looked like Patrick told her to release the kite as he then turned around between her and the kite right after she released it. Then he was going to drag her, but let go after seeing a huge breaking set approaching which could have led to 2 needing rescue if he didn't get out of there and come back a second time. Hell of a job getting her back to safety. I don't think she really had any time to do much to get out of there since she was doing what Patrick said. That being said, if he wasn't there to get her out, it would have probably been a disaster.

BTW West, I need to hang with you more if those waves look so so. Right on brother.
