This issue has been going on for awhile. I have to sift through 10 spam and 1 real one a day, sometimes the filters don't work. I'm talking with B cruz in 30 minutes about the site. Wish me luck

I re-set the new registrations from "admin approved" to allow new users to activate themselves. I set this before but adrian, you must have changed it back? I don't see a reason to need an admin to manually approve with the keyword request...

OK, just wait for the spam then.....This phpBB is about 1 year old. The spammers have a way if it's not updated. You aren't' on here to see it all the time, but I delete and disapprove spammers all the time. You think I want to approve about 3 users a day manually??? Think a little V :P

No but i checked it the first time and there were no spam registrations for over two weeks. You're right i no longer check everyday. I did that for 10 years...

I see you deleted about 5 users since May. Were these autobots or just users that were spamming their rental homes in "paradise"?

HAHA, so you get what I'm saying. Making sure this place doesn't get flooded isn't the hardest thing, but it's getting do be the straw on the camel's back if oyu know what I mean. I'm still in talks with Brandon Cruz about moving the site to my servers so I can take better care of it. He might be the busiest man I've ever met....literally :? Thanks for checking up though :)

No way. More then that! I deactivate and delete the useres. As I see you are checking the logs check that entry. I just cleared it out about 5-6 weeks ago. I deleted over 200+ users....probably more like 400 since I've had the e-amil up. It's about one a day (around)

The spam itsefl isn't so bad since I run the user IP's through a spam search before I approve it, or if I see it's a local ISP then I approve immediately. Either way it's a shitty process and want to get the captcha installed so we don't have any issues. For that I needs server rights.

Okay it's been nearly a week with no spam.

Fyi registration still has the captcha and the special question. In terms of "spamming" it seems to be more about users posting their non-relevant, or obvious hyping, crap, rather than automated bots...no action in a week tho.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Well, this is good news. When was the captcha installed? I've been registering people for a long time and spammers still do register and their IPs pop up on the DB. Thanks V

THings are still looking good for spam registrants. Adrien those other ones must have been just guys posting their spam manually and you'll never prevent that 100%. Just delete those posts and users. I think the keyword works well as it is not with automatic registration activation...I'll keep checking here or there but suggest we leave it as is for now. No need to manually activate people.

I totally agree. Notice spam users are getting in, BUT they aren't posting which is nice. I also agree that we should leave it the way it is. YEAY! No more manual! I didn't know we had put in the captcha and question box.

Guys, FYI, Adrien is right, I have been the holdup on moving forward with upgrading this site. Over this winter though, I am going to work with him however possible to get this site completely upgraded without losing any of the old posts or functionality that are here. I will start a new thread at some point soliciting input and ideas from everyone on how to make this better.

Haven't seen most of you guys in an eternity, hope everyone is doing well!

I've said it countless times, I'll request it again. Make the forum Tapatalk compatible. Makes it sooooooo much easier on mobile devices.
