Hey, This is my first post. I plan on riding tomorrow, I normally go to pt. betsie/frankfort and I know that's where a lot of people will be at on 9/11, including guys from chicago and WI. But, on 8/30 there were near identical forecasts and I was way overpowered on my 8m, and it's too far for a day trip for me from East Lansing.

Will anybody be at Grand Haven, Muskegon or anywhere around there?

It's definitely off-shore and gusty as hell at kegs. I've been there in similar conditions, and don't recommend it.

My lil heart sank as I made the halfhour drive up to find sw even wsw so we watched a few venture out to drop kites lose boards, struggle etc. THen sure as ship, Martin swims damn near out to the pier with no wettie or life jacket and grabs a lost board in offshores to end up much later down in the hole on shore. That was worth the long drive up. Then after a trip to the lemonade stand, im standing there with wind in my ear from the right. 10m up and running...ultra glassy water with some long ones setting up and the jumpathon was on. Day number 4 and talkin a 5th to score??

Keegs was fantastic this afternoon! SSW most of the time (SW here and there) but rode on my 9m from 3:30 till 7. Water was calm and warm. Check out the main page of this website and click on "Where to Ride" (for those who don't know) and it list all the places that are rideable with which type of wind conditions/directions.

Nice to kite with you Annie. Yes it was SSW most of the session on my 12m. I was surprised only a hand full of us were out.

Wolf was packed baby! Got summa my first real big boosts in yet landing was another story...but Ill gettit. Ben, Roman, Paul, Me, Some polish guys!?, and windsurfers galore were all eatin it up. Lovin the 2 min commute from work! Lets do it again!

Rode Two Rivers from 4 until sunset on an 8 meter. Wind was a bit on, side on as it was a true south making for ok conditions. Waves were waist to chest with a few head high in the mix. Last hour was the best as the wind had just a bit more west in it. I stopped by the home base in sheboygan after work to find a huge wind line but light in shore so I headed north. The wind swung in later in the afternoon and a few locals had good riding from 4 until 6 in Sheboygan. Monday was outstanding with strong clean wind from 1ish until 6-7

It seems to me this section is usually a bragging board on where people road rather than a place to Find out where everyone is going to ride. Don't get me wrong, I love the stories but it's nice to know where people are going riding not where they were

I hear ya buddy, but coming from a newbie like me entering in to my first fall season here is what I can say to help you;

1. Know your locations and typical wind directions... people on this forum reach from wisconsin, indiana, michigan, and points further. Simply asking where are you riding will illicit responses from people that can be a 6+ hour drive away!

2. Know your crew! Text me if you have a hint of riding and I can help ya out on the indiana, michigan sida things as I now have contacts from this side of the lake and upward in to michigan, wisconsin. Also being able to participate and share wind info will pay back in spades. (you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours) Next time its a sure thing at MC, Miller, or Casino (closest to us) get to know the local riders and swap some digits and make your network. Like in business networking is how things get done....

3. Read between the lines...West and Scotty are good for cryptic messages, others say it straight on where to be... Find where the prominent and most veteran riders are going and typically thats your best chance for wind.

4. Get to know Windalert.com, Windfinder, NOAA, WGN, and whatever else... chances are people are looking at the same thing you are and will see the wind and where it is at. If its a sure thing with the right angle there will be people there 90% of the time. Looking for the right conditions and making your own call is what you will have to learn to do sometimes and take the gamble.

That is some of my advice as a newbie that has helped me ride on average every week since I started. Scotty really helped me a TON on Indiana/Michigan local conditions and got me up to speed pretty quickly.. hopefully that helps a little.

If Keegs was fantastic yesterday on SSW, why did I decided against going? Maybe it's because most folks would say that Keegs is good on SSE or SSE, but not worth while on SSW or even S might be to gusty. Go figure.

To add: You know, a lot of people don't have a beach 5 minutes away so they must drive. And when you drive, what's 45 minutes or an hour and half, right? I have come to see there is a distinct difference in mentality when this occurs. The passion for the sport stays, but the home beach effect makes those who are close, stay close and enjoy every minute of kiting and end up kiting more often. Others have to take an entire morning, afternoon, and evening to travel around and hit the best possible spots. When we bash each other for where we go, I think it's just out of ignorance of what the other has going on in life or expectations. I totally understand why people stay in Waukegan on a SSW when it's not ideal. I also understand when people drive 7 hours to kite for only a fraction of that. It's not my cup of tea for everyday, but it's still delicious tea! However you kite, where ever you kite, you are still in a brotherhood of people that understand the surreal feeling of slashing a wave, landing a powered move, or just staring right into the falling (or rising) sun as you search your soul.......we all get it

The forum is the new facebook of lake m kitesurfing . Including myself its become a way to outdo ur BROssssS. Its a joke and all BS where the whole story is never told . " You missed it" has been going on forever and a part of what we EGO manics do. Its fun to brag and razz each other but generally its what you make of it where ur at. You can have a fantastic sesh if you are learning and getting a thrill anywhere. Any spot on the right day can offer that. I personally still have so much to learn that most anything can become epic if i let it.

If you are not sure about ur sesh, EGO has now officially been designated as the board of engineers for all things EPIC. Hes good at measuring his size and can tell you where ur lacking and where you missed it:D

As far as the spots..yes the hotdogs including myself should try harder to rally the day and beach to be had rather than the post production but I prolly cant stop myself cuz it is so much fun 2 go EPICCCC on a lake!

I think it is funny that scotty has kited as long as anyone but just found the forum as of late.

As far as finding where to ride it is pretty simple. Check the weather via ikitesurf and noaa, figure out the direction,look at a map and do the"math". It is not rocket science, if it was i would be in trouble
