Dug a little deeper in your link and went to the HELP tab toward the bottom and got this explanation;

4. Cloud covered areas of the lake surface cannot be read accurately by NOAA satellites so the computer program colors them black. Areas near the black masked cloud cover may not be as precisely reported as those some distance from the clouds. CoastWatch images are generally representative of surface temperature conditions, they are not as accurate as your road atlas.

5. Some areas are masked with grey color because the computer program has indicated the temperatures presented are probably cloud temperatures. The air temperature at the tops of clouds can sometimes be very nearly the same as the surface water temperature of the lakes below. The grey-scale masking indicates that the accuracy of temperature reporting is lower at this time. Watching CoastWatch temperature patterns over the days, weeks and seasons provides useful information on lake surface temperatures.

I think the NOAA link you provided second is a more accurate reflection.

Ssw 14-18kts at mc now...getting close. Will be butta smooth the first hour or so with no north wind all night...gonna check it again in an hr and prob head out to miller or tiles bch or mc....

Me and Mike Z went to MC. Yesterday and rode 10-4. 5 Kites on the beach including my own while Mike was boosting 50ft big airs on an 8. My 7 was hard to hold down. Rain, then 9m conditions then 10,11,12 started seeing 14's flying when we left at 4. Great day. Tried to set up a down wider but no one seemed interested. Really really want to down wind it before the water gets too chillllllly. Maybe KOTGL will be the place to do it.

Scotty G was suppose to come out... What happened l?!? Don't te kids know what your prioritys are when the wind blows?!!?

Bunch of kites@miller...8m for me. Rode upwind to the jetty with lynch. Got some good sets for sure. Typical nw though and started to fall off slowly but steady. Waas still a nice day. Waves were quite clean. Got 4 hits on a wave several times before it either closed out or rolled out. But since it started falling off i kinda wished i rigged my 10 - i would have gotten more time on the jetty but still got hours of riding in on the 8 so a good day!

Got to see some of the crew from the earlier days like james and rode with the BRO man himself!

Mike Z can jump! He has good timing, and off a bigger wave I don't see why not. In one video he's pushing 35 ft and that was flat. Add a 10ft wave...boom (yeah I know it's a 45ft calc, but come on )

I have been kiting ten years, been alot of places and have seen alot of things. A fifty foot air is not one of them. The biggest jump i have ever seen was in a solid 40 knots, 7m kite and the kid was the size of an elf, that was maybe 45. I do know one thing, if i saw somebody blowing up 50 footers i would be running to my car for my camera.
