Re: Lake Michigan sickeness

I've had lake head for years. I believe it's mostly due to the run off, waterfowl, sediment etc. I've observed that when I ride near a pier with brown water emptying into the lake is when I get the worst symptoms. After a rainfall as well. I have also noticed less or no symptoms when I ride where th...

El Norte Tuesday 7/15

It's a ways out but 60 high temps....n,nw flow......it might actually get windy in south haven. Best of all on a Tuesday. There may even be some bumps on the water to play with. Crossing fingers she doesn't creep through during the night. Pray with me brothers and sisters. Pray. The lack of local wi...

Re: South Haven 7/6

Yep...typical S/SW in the haven ...... good until noon then good for golfing. Unless its a real front with some juice SW is always strong in the am....then fades quickly around noon. Sunday was a textbook example of the SW fizzle. It's been like that for ages. The thing is on almost every SW forecas...

Re: South Haven 7/6

Sunday will be windy in the haven. Yes. Best to try a different spot in my opinion. It's July 4th weekend peak season for beachgoers not kiters as much. South wind is slightly offshore and the beach will be crowded with people. Gusty and sketchy. Adhere to the rules if you choose to go out and ride....

Re: 7/1 - Michigan City?

SoHa is always awesome! Wait until you get a taste of El Norte in the fall. That's when she shows her true colors. Glad you got some action! I could see some kites up at the pier. I was downwind a few miles at my secret spot. Daisy dog got a great day on the beach all day chasing me down and swimmin...

Re: the mother of kiteboarding

Old stuff....09 but you'll get the idea. Not 30 feet of the deck but still impressive in my old man humble newbie opinion. http://vimeo.com/9096289 It's completely different when you see cats nailing this shit right up in your face. It's humbling. Now a days I'm just stoked to even get a session on ...

Re: the mother of kiteboarding

Tommy. Yeah that kid is incredible. He's in a whole other category of riding. He's a pro now. He was at the perfect age to get into kiting. He was always into wake boarding and once he learned how to stay upwind.....he just took off. Let's just say that I've never seen anyone in person do what he ca...

Re: the mother of kiteboarding

I'm pretty much still a newbie, but I still love the big air.
That is what attracted me to kiting.

Now a days I'm just happy if get out on the water. Seems harder and harder to do each year.

Most excellent post! Nuff Respect! All I can say is WOW. The pic of Ursalas you sent me was BIG. You and TG have earned the 2013 Hardcore Shed award! Those are conditions I simply fear. If it were 75 degrees....maybe...just maybe.....but WOW....20 degrees...Just Wow! Dedication to say the least. I h...

Re: Good ol El Norte

Nice evening session in South Haven! Wind did it's normal build all day and then around 3-4pm it seems to just pop and start cranking. I've often called north wind a working man's wind because it fills in late in the day around here. Lots of kites out, lots of surfers and several windsurfers. Waves ...

Good ol El Norte

She'll be coming down the lake Monday, with leftovers tuesday. This front has some energy behind it. Nice cool down next week. Hoping to get out into the wave pool if the ol back injury let's me go. It should be good at many southern basin beaches, but remember to play it cool. This is the last week...

Re: Little Sable Point 8/25

Ha! I think all of us who windsurfed have been in that dark spot before. I still do windsurf but mostly inland on nuking days in late fall where there is no other option. It's still quite fun...just not what I prefer to do on lake Michigan.....that is for kiting! I'm bummed to hear that the news is ...

Funny post rorke. Ok....here we go.....So I'm talking to one of my windsurf buddies today who was really worked up about the kiters at the point this weekend...particularly on Sunday. He's telling me that there were several times when they saw kites floating downwind with no rider attached. A kiter ...

Re: Little Sable Point 8/25

I love these kind of posts. LSP has been magical from the first day we found it which was over 15 years ago. It's so good up there so often one of my best friends bought a house up there as well as another one of my old windsurfing buddies. 2guys invested heavy in that place due to the reliable cond...

Side note: I had the pleasure of seeing SRV 5 times. I even went to his second to last show of his life in Kalamazoo. It was killer. He ripped so hard that night....broke about 7 strings in a half hour....his guitar tech would strap a new one on Stevie while Stevie was still playing the other and th...

Reading this kind of stuff just makes me cringe. It only takes one person to blow it for many. Pretty bad judgment call to say the least. Again complacency seems to be the new normal....oh nothing will happen it's all good bro. I'm an instructor...I got this! Chicago is going for the shutdown this s...
