Fun Benefit Party This Thursday For Wind-based Nonprofit!

It has been a great year for Carpe Ventus (Seize the Wind)! This is short notice, (although I know most of us wait to see what the wind is doing before making plans anyway) Carpe Ventus takes youth and their mentors sailing, plus we fly trainer kites with some of them and have a vision for involving...

Holland - Friday Afternoon 10/7

Anyone up for kiting Holland State Park Friday afternoon 10/7 at about 2:30 if it shapes up as predicted?

Trainer/Power Kites for Peace in Chicago

We are excited to get Carpe Ventus fully functioning this year! We work with youth and their mentors to strengthen mentorship through sailing, kiteboarding and windsurfing. Mentorship has been proven by research to reduce violence and other socially detrimental and costly behaviors while significant...

Re: Carpe Ventus: Mentorship thru Sailing, Kiting, Windsurfi

Here is a little update on the Carpe Ventus Benefit Party: It was a big success, celebration and invitation to be a part of an exciting mission! The original plan was to raise funds for a boat, but the funds came in and we were able to buy the boat while we were still planning and preparing so the e...

Carpe Ventus: Mentorship thru Sailing, Kiting, Windsurfing

My name is Dave Foster, I have been on the Chicago Kitesurfing Forum off and on for years. I have not been out kiting much lately as I have been working hard to get an organization called Carpe Ventus (seize the wind) started to strengthen mentorship through sailing, kiteboarding and windsurfing. We...

Re: Forum Updates

Adrien, Credit where it is due for sure! From earlier parts of the conversation it sounded like you help clear out the spam, so that is what I meant by "help maintain the site". I'm just trying to express my appreciation for all that goes into it. Are all of the locations on the map link you posted ...

Re: Forum Updates

Thanks again Brandon, V, Adrien and everyone else who is working on these updates or has maintained this site. It is most appreciated! I don't think I would have been able to get into kiting at this time in my life without this forum and I'm sure that is true for others.

Re: Who likes good beer!?

This is from an earlier post: I would like to say we brew from 1-4 or somewhere thereabouts. I will have the water hot and ready and set up for the event to cut down on brewing time. Anytime someone wants to come over and hang is cool by me... I will get a start on set-up around 11am or so and have ...

Re: Who likes good beer!?

if St. Pat is on Sunday why not to do it on Saturday? The downtown celebration is on Saturday and some (like me) have plans to SUP the river that day  and drink lots of bad green beer[/quo Adrien, given the other conversation on the forum about the state of the Chicago River and this statemen...

Re: Low Water Could Reverse Chicago River

As far as I understand it takes a very long time for the water from the Great Lakes Basin to drain into the great lakes so the results of precipitation or drought take some time. Some of the water has to travel huge distances.

Re: New Year New Trips

I haven't been to those bays, but Lake Superior seems to always be frigid even in the summer, but maybe that makes for food wind conditions. I did grow up in Cedarville, in the eastern Upper Peninsula on the Huron side. There are a lot of islands, channels and bays there with various places that are...

Re: Who likes good beer!?

I've brewed a few batches myself, great to see there's a lot of interest/experience here! In the vein of suggestions for clones, I'm a huge fan of big IPA's like Dogfish Head's 60 minute. I recently got some Kona Brewery Koko Brown which includes toasted coconut giving it some really interesting fla...

Re: Grass Lake Snowkite Saturday Mar 2

I know there are boards designed for snow kiting, do you use one of those or are you making it work with a snowboard and if so, what is it like with the snowboard on the kind of conditions normal for grass lake?

Re: Wed 10/10/12

Ben did end up at Miller and we had a pretty good session. I'm not ready for 6 foot waves so it worked out though there were times with my 10m I could barely get over the waves and others I could hardly hold it down fully depowered. It was good to get on the water!
