Storm Riders!

Guys, anybody curious what happened to Bob & the crew, whose first days in Hatteras coincided with Matthew? I was so I wrote to Bob, and here's the answer: "Thanks for checking in on us. Everything survived, but it was very intense to say the least. We got here the day of the hurricane before all he...

Bonaire Nov 12- 19

I know, there are better months, wind-wise, to go there. But still beats many other places for wind statistics, PLUS - a beautiful, relaxed, yet developed island - plenty to do when it's not blowing (shore diving comes to mind) - reasonably priced flights ($450 RT from O'Hare) - cheap accommodation ...

Costa Rica update

Just back from the spot, http://www.kiteboardingcostarica.com/ 8/8 days riding, 10.5 m only once, 9 m most of the time, 7 m twice (I'm almost 220 lbs) - and it was not very windy, just a beginning of the season, I was told. They don't have really flat water, no downwinders, no waves. But endless win...

I am glad Kegs worked for you!
I haven't heard about any change in no-kiting policy in Chicago but people are pushing boundaries, no doubt, just check the other thread about someone kiting off Ohio St. beach!

Re: Playpen this afternoon 4:45

I spoke with a couple, recent transplants from South Carolina to Chicago, in Waukegan on Wednesday. She mentioned that she saw someone kiting "by the big curve north of downtown" the other day - so we have another sighting!
The real interesting question is: what was the launching/landing site?

Re: 9/30-10/1 north winds

Miljan, I can't think of a better place to practice water starts, with this wind direction and force, than Waukegan, between piers. It was almost perfectly flat today, and even if you can't stay upwind, with the wind almost parallel to shore, it's going to take a while before you get pushed toward t...

Re: Flat water spots near Waukegan? Water temp?

If the wind direction doesn't work for Kegs, consider Wolf Lake. It's a controversial spot among the forum activists, and many people just hate the industrial surroundings but for warmer, flat water, many find it hard to beat.

Re: Flat water spots near Waukegan? Water temp?

I believe people just assume you can check readily available info about riding spots on this forum... The description of Waukeegan, aka Kegs, is very detailed. The flat water, surprisingly, is right there, between 2 long piers, check Google Earth. For example, yesterday there were 10 kiters there, a...

Simply gorgeous graphics, amazingly smooth transitions between different readings, and if you load your pipe with some focus-enhancing substance, you can probably look at it forever, with a blissful smile.
Thanks for sharing!

Fredo, Welcome to the area. While I am not the best person to tell you all this (there's plenty of more experienced guys out there), there are certain pretty strong negative factors that you may want to consider: 1. According to recent postings, there's still ice out there http://www.chicagokitesurf...

Hatteras, May 2-9

Hello, Being unable to join Bob on his fabulous trip this spring for health reasons, I was looking for later alternatives, and it turned out that my old windsurfing buddy Nick goes there with his wife and a sweet 2-y.o. We rented a sound-front house in Avon. Not quite the same access like Bob's hous...

Re: St joesph 10/28

Funny thing with the wind direction yesterday, Scotty. It was certainly side shore in Tiscornia, pretty close to 45 degrees when I was there for most of the afternoon. On the other hand, the iKite meter showed side-to-off shore in MC for most of the day - but people riding there seemed to have it pr...

I was in St. Joe next door, and enjoyed it, thank you very much.
There is no need to get nasty. You posted something that can be misinterpreted, to put it mildly, so I think my question was quite legitimate.
Thanks again for your explanation.
