I also issue IKO certifications if you are at a skill level to handle the conditions at Montrose beach in Chicago. What kind of 12m do you have and wh...

Re: New to the Chicago Kite Scene

You could've been riding your 8m for a few hours at Lake St. beach during a supercharged wind blast yesterday. I probably use a 15m or 17m most of the Summer as the lightwind thermals kick in. If you don't 'mind traveling up the East or West coast of Lake Michigan, your bound to find some stronger w...

Re: Line Adjustment & Kite Size

Hey Chris, Assuming you're flying only 6m and 8m Neo's and not another brand, it sounds like your backlines are shorter than your front lines on your bar. If this is the case, they either have been stretched or shrunken. If they are prestretched lines, then they shouldn't stretch. Once the waxy lini...

Re: Kalamazoo Area Kiters

It was an all out boosting fest with the Michigan boys last weekend. They keep pushing themselves to the next level! I'll give you a shout next time I'm up that way but in the meantime, I'll put you in touch with some of the local kalamazoo crowd.

Re: Next Steps?

To ride Montrose, you actually will need an IKO Level 3L for riding on the water. An ESE at montrose is the golden nugget but only happens a few times a year. A SE is offshore so you’ll need to be able to stay upwind next to the jetty to capitalize on those days. If you’re on the beach, having a sma...

Re: Next Steps?

Hi Gerry, It’ll be great to have you join the Kiteboarding scene! Unfortunately the conditions at Montrose don’t look like Aruba more than two times Max a year. They don’t call it the washing machine for nothing. Although on occasion after they groom the beach it is good for Landkiting before Memori...

Broko Bindings for Snowkiting

Has anyone tried Broko Bindings before? They rotate 360 degrees under your snowboard bindings so you don't get that twisting sensation in your knee's while you're snowkiting. I made a quick video to demonstrate how Broko's alleviate the tension in your knee. I ordered a few extra so give me a shout ...

That's cool! Why don't we do something like that around NW Indiana or SW Michigan, in a non-ghetto area.

Re: CHEAP TRAINER KITE WANTED

Hey Kiter Dude! I have a few options if you're interested. I recommend the Peter Lynn for a cheaper price point, the Liquid Force 2m for easier relaunch or the Core Xperience for smoother flying. All trainer kites come with safety wrist leash. Peter Lynn Hype 1.6m $105 Peter Lynn Hype 1.9m $129 Pete...

Kiteboarding Etiquette

Since Fall is finally here and it windy just about everyday, I thought I'd share an old article on Kiteboarding Etiquette. Everything in this article has relevance to our kite spots but a few things that have happened and were complained about were the following: https://www.thekiteboarder.com/2010/...

Re: Moving to Chicago

David, You're moving to the right place at the right time to kiteboard. You'll need a streamer to ride at Montrose, a wetsuit, boots, gloves, hood and definitely a 7/9/11m to go with your 14m. My kiteboarding school carries all of the above. My website is www.stokeriders.com if you'd like to try som...

Re: What should I know after first 8 hours of training

It sounds like your instructor didn't want to get wet. It's the instructors job to find a pace that works for you that challenges you but is also safe and enjoyable. If you get hung up on a certain skill, it's important to go back a step and spend more time honing in the skills that will make the ne...
