Sunday August 5, LSP to Ludington?

Forecast is for SW20-30. Worth the drive (5 hours for me)? Anyone else interested, need to arrange cars for downwinder or bring a driver along. Hugh

Re: Gear Purchasing Advice

Pablo, I've 12 years experience and kites from Best, Naish, and Cabrinha. That said, I've never flown a Cabrinha Switchblade, although they are a popular style of kite. If you are uncertain about how to evaluate used kites, a reasonable problem, an alternative is to rely on a shop for some confidenc...

Re: Fall is Upon us....

Damn West, you sure know how to extract the most from your lake. We were out in Cape Hatteras for part of that, but sadly missed Hurricane Matthew. I believe the gang from Chicagoland and the cheeseheads caught it good, but have heard only minor reports (from Grigory Burov, who kites with us on Clin...

Re: Clinton Lake May 28th?

Good to meet you and Adrienne (spelling?) this weekend, Mike. Sorry the wind went offshore. Ken Moyer and I are headed out to Cape Hatteras for the next two weeks, but Frank Scotello will be around if you want to visit again with company. Hugh

Re: Cape Hatteras trip update - week 1.

Bob, I just posted an account of our time in the big NEaster on the April 2nd thread. Great to hear you got out there on Sunday, it was indeed epic, and very impressive that you rode that strapless. I can't even imagine trying strapless in those conditions. Sorry we did not cross paths out there. Hugh

Re: Sat Apr. 2nd

We had a once-in-a-lifetime event at Cape Hatteras 14-23 April, with a five-day NEaster at the beginning of the trip. The NEaster started on the Wednesday, we arrived on Thursday 14th, and rode the length of Avon (me on 6m Cabo and Ken Moyer on 7.5m Kahoona, both on twintips). It was very difficult ...

Re: Clinton Lake Marina Tuesday March 22

Sorry, no lessons on Clinton Lake. Frank Scotello has taught a couple of his friends in part there, primarily using the beach in Spring and Fall (no access for us in the summer), but most of us learned at Cape Hatteras.

Take a peak at the Windguru forecast for this weekend in Hatteras! We are headed out early to get some goodness on Thursday and Friday in preparation for the weekend.

Re: Sat Apr. 2nd

Great pics, Scottie. Playing in the waves! Maybe one day we will actually get to kite at the same place at the same time. We might get a session at Clinton Lake tomorrow, although cloudy and rainy and not as warm as last Sunday (bloody freezing today!). We are all headed to Cape Hatteras next weeken...

Re: Sat Apr. 2nd

Glad you enjoyed it, West. Great write up. We had a really good day on Sunday with a perfect SW breeze at the Marina. Steve, Rodney, and Casey from Indiana were out first in the morning on 12m and then 9m kites in warming conditions. Casey is a big jumper. By the time I got there around 1PM (flat ti...

Re: Sat Apr. 2nd

Finally got out for two sessions on my 6m Cabo, completely depowered, Frank and Ken on 5.5m Kahoonas. Two guys from Lafayette, Indiana (Steve and Raymond?) only had 9m kites, so we're rigging as we left. Tomorrow should be good SW at the marina. Hope you Michigan Lakers had some fun.

Too cold water for most of us East-Central Illinois types. We will be at the beach at Clinton Lake (see other post). Where you guys thinking on the big lake?

Re: Clinton Lake Marina Tuesday March 22

Great, thanks West. We had the largest turnout ever at the Marina launch with nine kites (including John from Watseka). Water was a little colder than expected (strangely two weeks earlier was a little warmer, and Frank Scotello even had a session a week before that). Nice 20mph winds with the usual...

Clinton Lake Marina Tuesday March 22

A few of us locals will be out kiting at Clinton Lake Marina in East Central Illinois (midway between Champaign, Bloomington, and Decatur) tomorrow (Ken Moyer, Frank Scotello, me, and perhaps others). The wind should be SW, which is perfect direction, 20-30mph, with air temp in the 60s from noon onw...
