Waukegan or Weko Beach 8/25

Post by robroy » Sat Aug 24, 2013 11:46 am

Anyone going to Waukegan or around to the Michigan side tomorrow? It looks like the wind forecast is for a SSW wind direction.

If there is any sort of "west" in the wind you don't want to go to Waukegan.

N, NNE, NE, ENE, E, ESE, SE, S work at Waukegan.

Not SW WSW W WNW NW...

Ok, thanks. I've never been to Waukegan before. My dilemma is that if the wind is more south, then it won't be good for the SE side of the lake.
Any suggestions?

It's "possible" to ride Keegs on a SSW, but not ideal. It's a huge risk going there on West winds because the direction has changed on me from SSW to STRAIGHT OFFSHORE within a 5 minute period on numerous occasions. Exercise caution. Buddy up. Bring some beer in case it happens. :D I might be right there with you.

As of 7:00, the Waukegan forecast is looking like it's going to have too much W in it... and at Keegs, that means it's going to get worse. Milwaukee (Bradford Beach) is good on a SW and it's looking windier there too. I'm tentatively heading there. Now, I have to make sure I have a car.

I'm looking at Weko Beach, but it could be off shore if the wind shifts out of the south at all. It's such a long drive...and the traffic
I'm not sure what I'm gonna do at this point.

Where are you coming from? Milwaukee and Weko are not close at all.

I'm coming from Sycamore, Il. Both Milwaukee and Weko are far. However, I'm bringing my kids, and they like the dunes. The other thing for me is I'm a beginner, and Weko is not crowded if you walk a little South of the beach-goers towards the Dunes.

Anyway, I'm out in Aurora, so I feel your pain (not as badly though). Weko does have dunes, but the trip is probably a bit farther for you. I don't know if anyone else is heading out there. You might not have to go as far North as Weko to kite though.
