Post by JohnHall » Fri Mar 26, 2010 5:40 pm

Looks like it should be blowing 20+ on Sunday. Its going to be cold but I can take my 9m out so probably going to have to do it. Anyone thinking of going?

it will blow and I will be there. It should be a bit warmer than on Sunday. It was just too nuking and with nobody at montrose, I bailed even with the 5m Bunny kite.

cool I'll be there with a 9m Blue Naish Cult. My 12 blew a strut recently on vacation so I'll also have my 14m blue airrush but honestly I probably just go home if the 9m isn't enough.

Anyone acting reckless? dropping kites, kiting too close to the beach, etc?

Riding @ montrose without a streamer is reckless in my opinion. It's a great way to lose access.

adrien,

dude, we're friends, but man up on this. if it's the rule that streamers are needed, get a streamer or don't ride.

Some might say that it's ridiculous to be required to have a streamer.

But this is the situation and this is what has been agreed by consensus in order NOT TO LOSE MONTROSE.

What is so hard to understand about this? Seriously.

"Ridiculous" does not come close to describing the people who refuse to abide by this.

Do you think Mike and others (mostly Mike) spent years working on this so YOU can fuck it up for everyone?

I say - start a list of names, beginning with the people offending on this occasion. If nobody does anything to stop this the plug will probably get pulled for everyone.

First off let me say that I was not riding at Montrose this weekend.

While I do understand that there is a rule regarding a streamer to ride, I think that this needs to be addressed in light of the fact that PASA and IKO are more or less defunct organizations.

I have done most of my riding down in the Keys and think that many people are having the same issue that I did. I took a week long course from the Kitehouse back in November 2007. Unfortunately, as PASA got into a pissing war with most of their former schools regarding payment of an annual fee, the Kitehouse and just about every other school in the Keys is no longer PASA or IKO certified. When I went to apply for my PASA certification and had the approval from Paul Menta (who helped start PASA) and Nick, I was unable to get a card because PASA said that the kitehouse was inactive as far as they were concerned, even though Paul practically started the damn organization.

I have had numerous discussions with multiple insturctors and unfortunately, most don't believe in PASA or IKO.

So unfortunately, the issue really becomes the ability or lack there of for people that are definitely good enough to be riding at Montrose to become certified.

I do understand that there may be some instructors in the area with PASA/ILO certs? Would any of these instructors be willing to spend a few hours certifying people at Montrose or Waukeegan prior to the season opening? Maybe offer what I have seen some do and charge each candidate $15 to essentially watch them kite and give them a cert. so that they can apply to PASA and get the card. The instructors could make some extra $ for essentially doing nothing other than either approving or denying people and hopefully this could help to alleviate the problem of people riding without streamers.

Again, this post is not meant to offend anyone, just lay out the facts that currently PASA and IKO don't exist in the eyes of some of the most credible names in the industry.

The current state of the organizations have no influence on the rules in effect at Montrose.

look, i wasn't at Montrose yesterday but this is how i see it.

it's been really cold for over 4 months with very little kiting and people have been a bit slack.

now let's all just ride our streamers full time and remind other riders to do the same.

i know Windigo certifies people and then you just call Windward sports to get the streamer.

otherwise there are good spots to ride for all these wind directions you jsut gotta put 2 extra hours into your planning.

it's going to be a very windy spring, probably the best variance i've seen in the weather since i moved to the city.

can someone let me know when MI is firing i want to ride those slick inside of the jettys?
