Chicago Kitesurfing Swap Meet May 7th?

Post by V » Fri Apr 01, 2005 1:49 pm

Each year we've organized a swap meet for the month of May. I'm wondering if we want to do it again. Here's the particulars on the swap meet:

http://www.chicagokitesurfing.com/News/swapmeet.html

This year will be the 3rd, or 4th, swap (can't remember). The date will be May 7th (second saturday in the month). Do you think you would want to attend? Maybe do a BBQ on the grassy area by the beach at Montrose, or something like that? Burgers, Dogs, etc. Swap gear and stories, meet the new crowd. Kite if there's N-NE winds...lets run the poll! Sign in and vote.

This might be a little excessive, but a few of us were talking ab out
haveing a pig rost for the Swap Meet. Up all night drinking 40's, ride in the morening if the wind is good, eat some pork in the afternoon.

I was thinking if someone could bring a grill to the beach, we could do it right there at Montrose. Or the night before, but at the swap, we wouldn't have to worry about a ton of people showing up. Two swaps ago (I missed the last one), we had about 60 people there. I'm thinking BYO grillmeat, obviously, if you're coming and hanging out at the swap. What do you guys think?

I'd probably show up to meet some of you guys, and look for used gear to get started in kiting. I'd be hopeing to find a trainer kite and just talk and hang out with a few of you.

Can you bring grills on to the beach at Montrose? or would I be grilling from the back of my truck in the parking lot?

I've seen large families grilling at Montrose before. Lots of grilling by the spanish crowd in the summer so should be "no problemo"

Last year swap meet

I made it out last year, and there was nobody there. Maybe 7 people or so.

I would love to make it, if some folks are actually going to show up.

From the post, it looked like 03 had a great turn out.

V, are you going to go? I would like to formally introduce myself to you and your crew.

How was CC?

cosmic, Yeah, I will plan to be there. BBQ or not, it would be good to get together. I will probably send an email to everyone in the CKS database to announce it mid April. Hope to get a big group of people.

CC was awesome. Here's some pics:

Pick on Corpus Christi Mar2005. Windy, warm, flat water with one ocean waveday. We rode everyday though a couple days it was late and just catching the start of the front. Nonstop wind every other day. Everyone was real nice and fun to meet. Big BBQ the last day with the Zero Gravity boys at the shop - steak, shrimp, chicken. All good stuff.

Okay its unanimous. Lets plan to meet on May 7th, Saturday around 12noon at the swap meet area at Montrose. Should we do it at the dog beach end if there's wind we can ride and hang out???

Hey V,

Lets try to do the swap meet on the North end...dog side so we can rig and ride conviently. The bird side was not that convinent in the past years.

Also closer to parking for taking our used gear for sale.

PS
I'm designing some , what I think are real cool shirts which I might take to the swap meet.

This post is from 2005, I dont think we have a planned swap meet yet this year 2010

The forum and its layout and some other things have been messed up for about a week now.

we need someone to fix it
