CKF Meeting 2011

Post by Dutchkiteboarder » Sat Mar 26, 2011 11:06 am

Last year it was a success. I met a lot of people at the beach even though it was COLD out!

I was thinking to set one up again. Last year I tried to get one at the end of the season but it didn't worked out to good. I was thinking of the following dates:
April 9 / or 10
April 16 / or 17
April 23 / or 24

Just one weekend of the month of April.... Location:
Waukegan or Miller beach. Think these beaches are most accessible for most riders of the Chicago area.

Sell, trade grill on the parking lot (or on the beach if it is going to be at Waukegan). Share, and discuss things and stories. Brag about your awesome ride at that amazing place you went or what ever!

Sooooo lets hear it! anyone in for this?

Sorry for the late setup people. On vacation now and my wife won't let me on the computer when she is around    So lets see how the first weekend will turn out with wind and stuff. Waukegan and Miller will be still the main beaches for the meeting / swap!

Keep an eye out on the weather as well. See you all hopefully the weekend of april 8 or 9!

Sounds like fun, thanks Maurice for setting this up!

Starting the drive home to Chicago today so I'll be around for that weekend. In Denver now and hoping the rv makes it one more long haul after 2 months of snowkiting in the mountains.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Ok Party People,
Looking at the forecast I need some advice:
http://www.ikitesurf.com/windandwhere.i ... ast+Graphs

It looks it will be slight side off shore at Waukegan for this Sunday. Looking at Google Earth it looks like the north side of the beach goes in a curve where the wind would be side shore. Any input and help would be appreciated!
One thing is for sure, Sunday will be the meeting. Unless the wind is going to change a lot. Hope to see you guys all out there this Sunday!

Storms very possible. I know Wolf or Michigan would be out of the question for a meeting, but they are better for that direction. I'd still go if people show interest and it won't storm the ENTIRE day.

Had a great time last year and wish it was easier to plan for wind instead of the other way around.

Seeing the forecast now indeed. Storm all day unfortunate. And I am not a big fan myself of having thunder in the air....... Maybe skip it till next weekend?!

247 hits and only 12 responses....... Kinda sad to see that. I am kinda in to call it a GO for this Sunday for Waukegan. Even though its going to be slight off shore, might be suitable if we walk up to the north part of the beach. BUT ladies and gents:
http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail ... 7?dayNum=3

50% chance of Thunderstorms. And this is were our amazing windy day is coming from. So to be official. I cancel it for this weekend. And lets see what next weekend has to offer.

Dutch,

Don't be too discouraged by all of the views with such few posts. I think most (like myself) are creepers. I'm watching to see what the decision is. I plan to attend, I just don't have much to add to the post. So keep your chin up.

See you soon!

Dutch , I think it's like that because you are trying to make a decision based on whether forecast couple days ahead of time, when it has been so unpredictable last couple weeks that you can't even be sure if you gonna get to ride while pumping a kite on the beach - wind still blowing ( some of us experienced that last weekend... 2 days in a row :-) ) <-- I hope this makes any sense :-)

There is still bunch of people that will still rather spend 2 hours on the beach , wind or no wind , than at home .
You can always use the magic word " BEER " that should do it.

Yeah and it would be a nice trip getting away out of the house LOL!!!!

I know the forecast is pretty unpredictable lately. Oh well Shall we call it a go. Bring some beers, landboards, buggies, grill!!!! And all your old kite equipment you want to sell. Sounds much better.

Ok here the idea people:
Getting there around 10ish 10.30 at the parking lot.
Bring old kite gear you want to sell or just show your new ride
Grill 'n Eat + Drink!

Like U guys are saying its better to be there then not at all! And I can't just wait to try out my new wetsuit!

The "lurkers" should post that they are at least interested. Otherwise no one will know. Makes sense right? Plus they get the benefit of subscribing to this post to check out updates.

So far the weather has backed off a little for wind, but the storms will probably only come in the afternoon. This is good news. So if you are thinking of going, put a little post up and subscribe to this. At worst you'll just hear about the next meetup from this thread.

I am new to CKF. I had a great lesson with Amanda last year at Montrose, and I've been keeping in touch with Mike S ever since then. I am looking forward to finaly meeting everyone involved in the sport. We (my granddaughter and I) are coming to the Chicago area this weekend for some kiting fun. She's 8 and flys a 2m two line trainer. Complete with bar, loop, and Best harness. She wants to break in her new mini-buggy in Chicago! I hope you all still plan on getting together.
