The rule of thumb is Waukegan for south winds and Zion for north.

looking like a thermal block, water too cold. waukeegs reading only 11-15? going to watch it still at work. if it doesn';t happen in the next hour, its not happening imo until sundown when it gets cooler on land.

Agreed. Plus the next few days have something going on too.

Brian and I are heading to Wolf at 2. Much stronger forecast and no risk of thermal block. Keegs this weekend hopefully

if it turns SW it may be good at St. Joe as well, if W then MC. THermal block is the real problem this time of year for all the sites. NE is a sure thing but these S, SW are always weird. Have never been up to Keegs but maybe this weekend i will go for it.

WHILE HIGH GALE TO STORM FORCE SSW WINDS ARE OCCURRING ABOUT 2000FT ABOVE THE LAKE SURFACE DUE TO THIS PRESSURE GRADIENT...DUE TO THE COLD WATER AND THE WARM AIR MASS BEING ADVECTED OVER IT THERE IS A VERY STRONG
INVERSION BENEATH THESE WINDS. THUS...MOMENTUM FROM THE STRONG WINDS IS NOT BEING MIXED DOWN CLOSER TO THE LAKE SURFACE WITH THIS VERY STABLE CONDITION.
OBSERVATIONS FROM SITES WITH ANEMOMETERS WELL ABOVE THE STANDARD 10M HEIGHT...INCLUDING THOSE FROM LARGER COMMERCIAL BOATS ON THE LAKE...WILL SEE SOME STRONGER WINDS ESPECIALLY TOWARD THE UPWIND SHORES AS STRONG MIXING OVER LAND REACHES A SHORT DISTANCE OUT OVER THE WATER BEFORE HIGHLY LAMINAR FLOW DOMINATES.

So how does this thermal block work?
flags are riping but not a breeze.
further from the shore it looked like it was still blowing.
wtf?
