Lake St. Marys

Lake St. Marys

From Dayton or Toledo – There’s a small sandy beach at the NE end off Rte 15 and rte 29. Take 29 off 75 and head West to the lake. When you get to 15 (Koenig Road), make a left (South) then go to the next big street (Celina Road, rte 703). Go left (heading back East) for about 1/4 to1/2 mile. Make a right into the park. If you go to the right when you get to the guard house, there’s four small cabins right on the water and a small beach. Kinda tight but launchable. The lake is huge and surrounded by farmland so there isn’t much to break up the wind at all. There’s another spot the left of the guard house, but it seems for any W/SW/WSW winds, this would be a good launch. It would be on shore and the wind would be travelling over max water to smooth out.

From Chicago or Ft. Wayne/Decatur – Take the highways out of Chicago to I65 South to Indianapolis. Take this to Rte 30 East to Ft. Wayne area. Take the highway bypass around Ft. Wayne and South to Decatur. You will first take I69 South to I269 East (about 15-20 minutes). Off I269 East (about 10 minutes), take Hwy 27 Southeast toward Decatur. When you’re in Decatur, continue through town and 27 turns into Hwy 33. Continue on Hwy 33 Southeast (follow the signs, it turns a few times) to Koenig Road South (this is also called Hwy 15). Take this to Celina Road (Rte 703). Head East. Go left (heading back East) for about 1/4 to1/2 mile. Make a right into the park.
